BOC credit unions deliver on strategic technology roadmap for Canadian credit unions

Stronger together. That’s the philosophy of a group of Canadian credit unions and industry partners who have come together to work collaboratively to improve the competitive position of credit unions. In late January 2017, they delivered on their first key milestone – a Technology Roadmap for Canadian credit unions in support of their strategic planning related to technology and the digital environment.

The group, collectively called Back Office Collaborative or BOC, identifies and addresses trends in the financial services industry, creates Work Streams, and shares this information with the system, without intention of replicating current system initiatives.

Through the Technology Work Stream, the group of credit unions, and industry partners Central 1 and Celero, commenced on a unique project – a National Financial Institution Technology Roadmap.

The Roadmap was developed to help credit unions in their planning to address trends effectively and efficiently in an environment of unprecedented change. This Roadmap provides critical strategic information for executive teams and IT decision makers, regardless of credit union size or current solutions in place.

Currently the BOC has completed phase 1 of the project – build a scenario of the future – and have shared the findings of the Roadmap with the Canadian credit union system.

With phase I now complete, the BOC is putting Work Streams in place to address these trends. Current Work Streams include Technology, Marketing & Data Analytics and Human Resources.

How credit unions can get involved
  • The BOC invites credit unions to review the Roadmap and assess what it means for their own organization
  • The BOC encourages credit unions to contact them to learn more about the Work Streams and how they can support their credit union’s strategic direction
